How To Make Liquid Fertilizer From Kitchen Waste. Easy To Do At Home!

Liquid organic fertilizer for plants can be made from kitchen waste! This can be an alternative to waste management at home. Here’s how to make liquid organic fertilizer that you can try at home.

Do you have a small garden or a hobby of keeping ornamental plants at home?

If so, instead of going back and forth to buy additional fertilizer in the form of liquid organic fertilizer, it’s better for you to make it yourself at home.

Not only saving costs, with this step you can also give value to the benefits of kitchen waste.

Here’s how to make liquid organic fertilizer from kitchen waste that is easy to do.

How To Make Liquid Fertilizer From Kitchen Waste

1. Materials and Tools Needed

How To Make Liquid Fertilizer From Kitchen Waste

This type of liquid fertilizer is an additional fertilizer that is generally applied to the leaves, flowers, and stems of plants.

This fertilizer will stimulate the growth of these parts to be faster.

For that you need a lot of nutrients in it.

Therefore you will need the following ingredients in how to make liquid organic fertilizer:

  • Wet kitchen waste as nitrogen, can be stale vegetables, grated coconut, rotten fruit, and other organic materials.
  • Banana stems that are already fruiting (optional).
  • Farm animal manure, whether goat, cow, chicken, and others.
  • Animal urine.
  • Rice washing water.
  • Fish wash water.
  • Sugar/brown sugar.
  • Sugarcane drops.
  • Enough water.
  • Coconut coir without skin.
  • Sawn wood.
  • SOT, EM4 and other decomposers or starter microbes.

As for tool manufacture, please prepare the following materials:

  • bucket or barrel, complete with lid.
  • Sharp knife.
  • Plastic jerry cans.
  • Long wood for stirring.
  • Plastic hose.
  • Duct tape or other adhesive.
  • Plastic bottles.

The thing you need to remember, do not use containers or stirrers that contain iron material.

This is because iron can reduce the quality of the liquid organic fertilizer made.

2. Preparation Process for Liquid Organic Fertilizer

Before entering the manufacturing process, first prepare the materials that will be used.

For kitchen waste, you should wash or clean it first with running water.

This is necessary to minimize the possibility of harmful substances in the material that may inhibit the fermentation process later.

Then chop all the ingredients until smooth, the smaller the better.

Because the fermentation process will run more perfectly if the ingredients are small.

3. How to Make Liquid Organic Fertilizer

If you have finished preparing the kitchen waste materials, then you can start the process of making liquid organic fertilizer.

Here are the steps you have to do:

  • Dissolve the decomposer microbes such as EM into enough water.
  • Add natural sweeteners in the form of sugar and sugar cane juice, then let stand at least 20 minutes.
  • While waiting for the microbes to rise, pour the fresh manure into the bucket / barrel.
  • Enter the kitchen waste that has been chopped finely, then stir until evenly distributed.
  • Add all the other solid ingredients, namely banana stems, coconut husks, and sawdust.
  • Pour the bioactivator solution that has been left for 20 minutes.
  • If you want to speed up the decomposition process, you can add shrimp paste to the container.
  • Enter the remaining liquid ingredients, namely animal urine, rice washing water, and fish washing water, then stir until well mixed.
  • Add enough water, the ratio of liquid and solid ingredients is 7:13.
  • Stir again until smooth and close the container tightly.
  • Punch a hole in the top of the lid to create a passageway for the hose to enter the container.
  • Attach the hose and tape around it to close the air gap.
  • Insert the outside end of the hose into the bottle filled with water.
  • Cover around the mouth of the bottle so that there are no air gaps on the surface.

The reaction in the container will occur anaerobically and the hose will help stabilize the temperature in the barrel by expelling it through the end of the bottle.

Leave the barrels and bottles for about 10 days.

If the fertilizer is ripe, there will be an aroma of fermented tape.

However, if after 10 days or even 30 days the aroma does not appear, then the fermentation process fails.

You also need to do the steps from the beginning.

4. Filtration Method in Making Liquid Organic Fertilizer

How To Make Liquid Fertilizer From Kitchen Waste

After successful fermentation, separate the liquid fertilizer and the dregs.

This process can be done by filtering using a thin cloth.

So that the possibility of dregs remaining in the liquid fertilizer is smaller.

Put liquid fertilizer in another container and close tightly so that the quality does not change.

The remaining dregs can be used as solid organic fertilizer which is sown on top of the growing media.

It turns out that both are useful, right?

That’s how to make liquid fertilizer from kitchen waste. Hopefully the information is useful. thanks…
